The Birchington Orthodontic Practice has agreed with the Eastern and Coastal Kent PCT to provide NHS services for orthodontic patients.
All patients under 16 are eligible for an NHS orthodontic examination. Due to changes in the NHS regulations, NHS orthodontic treatment is however only offered to patients whose teeth are quite crooked and score highly on the NHS scoring scale, the Index Of Treatment Needed (IOTN). You will be advised if this applies to your teeth.
Private orthodontic treatment is also available at this practice. All patients of 16 and over at the time of referral, will only be offered private treatment.
Private treatment can be offered at more flexible times and be started more quickly due to a shorter waiting list. Please ask for a quotation and payment details if you are interested in private treatment.
All NHS patients must be referred by a general dental practitioner. Private patients may self-refer, but must still be registered with a dentist. |

Broken braces should be mended quickly, so if there are any problem, please telephone the practice as soon as reasonably possible and arrangements will be made to see you as an extra visit. PLEASE do not wait until the next routine appointment because this may result in your treatment taking much longer than planned.
If you are in pain, follow the measures which can be found on the "patient download" section. If the pain does not settle, please telephone the practice and arrangements will be made to see you as soon as possible.
Out of normal practice hours emergency arrangements can be found on the answer phone.
The Birchington Orthodontic Practice complies with:
- Health and Safety guidelines on sterilisation and disinfection.
- The rules and regulations of the National Radiological Protection Board in the use of x-ray equipment.
- The rules of the Data Protection Act 1998.
- The rules of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
